from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wenceslaus II of Troppau (also Wenzel von Leobschütz in Czech Václav II. Opavský ; * around 1397 ; † between 1445 and 1447) was Duke of Troppau from 1433 and Duke of Leobschütz and Lord of Fulnek from around 1435 . He came from the Troppau branch of the Bohemian Přemyslids .

Life

His parents were Duke Přemysl / Primislaus I of Troppau and Anna von Lutz († 1405). Around 1420 Wenceslas II married Elisabeth von Krawarn .

After the father's death in 1433, Wenceslaus II took over the guardianship of his younger stepbrothers Wilhelm , Ernst and Přemysl / Primislaus II , while the second-born brother Nicholas IV , who was also of age, dubbed the man on Zuckmantel . Although her father stipulated in his will that his territories should not be separated in order to prevent further fragmentation, they divided the inherited property around 1435. Wenceslaus II received the Duchy of Leobschütz and the Faustův dům Palace in Prague , while Wilhelm and Ernst received parts of Opava and Přemysl / Primislaus II, who belonged to the clergy, probably got nothing . After the death of his brother Nicholas IV in 1437, Zuckmantel probably passed to Wenceslaus II.

During the Hussite Wars , Wenceslas II was able to protect the Leobschützer Land from complete destruction with a treaty at the end of February 1428. In December 1428 he took part in the battle of Altwilmsdorf , in which the last Piast from Münsterberg, Johann I, was killed. In 1436, the Opava Duke Nikolaus V , who was a cousin of Wenceslas II's father, appropriated Leobschütz for no reason. In return, Wenceslaus II occupied the city of Sohrau , and in 1437 a settlement was reached. Because of financial difficulties Wenceslaus II had to pawn Zuckmantel and Edelštejn in 1440 to the Opole duke Bolko V , who was a supporter of the Hussites .

Wenzel II died between 1445 and 1447. His sons Johann I and Johann II became heirs. After Johann I died in 1454, Johann II sold his share of Troppau in 1464 to Georg von Podiebrad , who took over the other Troppau shares after 1454 Wenzel's brother Ernst had acquired.
