. Premysl II of Opava (also przemysław of racibórz / Przemko II of Opava. , Czech . Premysl II Opavský * to 1423/ 1425 ; † 16th June 1478 ) was from 1433 Duke of Opava and from 1446 a member of the Breslau cathedral chapter . He came from the Troppau branch of the Bohemian Přemyslids .

Life

His parents were Duke Přemysl / Primislaus I of Troppau and his third wife Helena († 1435) of Bosnia.

After his father's death in 1433, Přemysl's eldest brother Wenceslaus II took over the guardianship of his three younger stepbrothers Wilhelm , Ernst and Přemysl II, while the second-born brother Nicholas IV , who was also of age, dubbed the man on a Zuckmantel . Although her father had determined in his will that his territories should not be separated in order to prevent further fragmentation, they divided the inherited property around 1435. Since Přemysl II was intended for a clerical career, he probably did not receive any territorial shares when it was divided.

Přemysl II studied theology at the Universities of Cracow and Vienna , where he wrote the astrological treatise “Practice verissima domini ducis Przsenikonis data per dominum Petrum presbiterumde Oppavia Ludvico ad faciendam veram et perfectum lunam”. Around 1455 he returned to Breslau , where he had been a member of the cathedral chapter since 1446. From 1462 Přemysl II held the post of provost at the Wroclaw Holy Cross Church.

In 1464 he got into a dispute with his nephew Johann von Leobschütz about the possession of Fulnek . In the same year he had to waive his claims to Opava against the Bohemian King Georg von Podiebrad , whereby he still used the title Duke of Opava . Probably in 1465 he became a canon in Breslau. After the death of Bishop Jodok von Rosenberg from Breslau in 1467, he officiated as diocesan administrator . Although he was considered a promising candidate for the succession of bishops, the cathedral chapter gave preference to the Lavant bishop Rudolf von Rüdesheim , who had previously been appointed papal legate for Germany and Bohemia.

Přemysl II, who also studied alchemy and astrology, is said to have been very learned. In the older literature, his life dates are often with those of his nephew Přemysl III. mistaken.

Přemysl II died unmarried and without descendants in 1478. His body was buried in the Wroclaw Church of the Holy Cross , where his tomb has been preserved.
