Johann IV. (Jägerndorf-Loslau)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann IV. Von Jägerndorf (also Johann III. Von Troppau-Ratibor ; Czech Jan IV. Krnovský ; * around 1440 , † 1483 in Loslau ) was Duke of Jägerndorf from 1452 until his expropriation by Matthias Corvinus in 1474 and from 1464 until his death in 1483 Duke of Loslau . He came from the Troppau-Ratibor family of the Troppauer Přemyslids .

Life

Johann IV. Was the older son of Duke Nicholas V of Jägerndorf and Ratibor , who was an opponent of the Hussites . Since he and his younger brother Wenzel were not of legal age when their father died in 1452, they were initially under the tutelage of their uncle Wenzel von Ratibor († 1456) and their stepmother Barbara Rockenberg. After reaching the age of majority, the brothers ruled the inherited property together until 1464. In the subsequent division, Johann IV received Jägerndorf, Freudenthal and Loslau , while Wenzel Rybnik with Sohrau and Pleß were outsourced.

During the armed conflict between Bohemia and Hungary for supremacy in Bohemia, John IV supported the Bohemian King George of Podebrady in 1469 and, after his death in 1471, his successor Vladislav II . That is why he was captured by the rival king Matthias Corvinus in 1474 and forced to cede him to Jägerndorf. This left him with Loslau, where he died in 1483.

Presumably because Johanns sister Barbara († 1510), who had been married to Duke Johann IV of Auschwitz († 1495/97) since 1475, protested to Matthias Corvinus against the shameful treatment of her brothers and the robbery of their father's inheritance, Johanns IV dubbed it. Widow as mistress of Loslau, Rybnik and Sohrau After Matthias Corvin's death in 1490, Johann and Wenzel's sister Barbara dubbed the mistress of Jägerndorf .
