Nikolaus Vischel
Nikolaus Vischel , also Nikolaus von Heiligenkreuz (* allegedly around 1250/60; † allegedly around 1320/30), was a monk in the Cistercian monastery Heiligenkreuz and author of several learned Latin works, most of which are preserved in Codex 84 of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey Library.
There are only guesses about his life. A Bohemian origin and a stay in Clairvaux were assumed ; from around 1305 he was active as a pastor of the Cistercian women in Vienna .
His work De sanctissima Eucharistia , which was written between 1308 and 1316, can certainly be dated . His Marian tract Imago beatae virginis was printed in Augsburg around 1477. Of particular importance is the unfinished Tractatus contra perfidos Iudaeos ( Treatise against the faithless Jews ). Nikolaus Vischel's preoccupation with the Talmud is considered a rarity in the works of Austrian theologians of the 14th century.
