Obergartzem is a district of the city of Mechernich in the district of Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia .
An old Celtic-Roman settlement was found between the monastery in Antonigartzem and the town.
There was once a castle there ; it was the seat of the important von Gertzen family , who also had a castle in Sinzenich , and Langendorf Castle near Zülpich, which still exists today .
The St. Hubertus Church is located in the center of the village.
On July 1, 1969, Obergartzem was incorporated into Veytal .
On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Veytal (with the exception of the district Schwerfen, which came to the city of Zülpich ) was incorporated into the municipality (now the city) of Mechernich .
