location

Langendorf is in the Zülpicher Börde . Neighboring towns are Juntersdorf , Hoven , Merzenich and Eppenich . The federal highway 265 runs through the middle of the street village .

history

In 893 Langendorf is mentioned for the first time as property of the Prüm Abbey. The place name is derived from “to the long village”, which reflects the local layout of a street village. In the Prümer Urbar the place was called Langendorpht

As an independent municipality, Langendorf belonged to the canton of Zülpich during the French occupation and later to the Sinzenich office . On July 1, 1969, Langendorf was incorporated into Zülpich .

church

A chapel used to exist as the Gutskapelle of the Prümer Frohnhof. From 1124 to 1800 it was subordinate to the Siegburg Propstei Zülpich. The present church was built from this chapel . It is under the patronage of St. Cyriacus .

Castle

The Counts of Jülich had been the ones who had exercised the right to rule in Langendorf since the 12th century. To exercise this right, they built a water castle on the eastern edge of the village . Today Langendorf Castle is privately owned by the art patron and entrepreneur Manfred Vetter. He had a monument by Ulrich Rückriem erected not far from the castle in the field markings in the direction of Wollersheim . It indicates the possible location of the Battle of Zülpich and is called the Clovis stele . More Rückriem works of art can be found in the castle grounds and in Düren ( Rückriem steles ).

school

There is evidence of a school in Langendorf since 1844. The school building was built in 1877. In 1967 the school was closed and the house was rented to private individuals. After the school became free again in 1977, it was converted into a village community center.
