Linzenich is a district of Zülpich in the district of Euskirchen , North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

Linzenich is located in the Zülpicher Börde . The neighboring village of Lövenich is in the immediate vicinity. The Rotbach flows between the two districts . Other neighboring towns are Sinzenich , Enzen and Ülpenich . The road 178 runs through the village. To the south is the Schievelsberg , a former Thingplatz .

history

Linzenich was already settled in Roman times. The moated castle in Linzenich was first mentioned in documents in 1357 . At the beginning of the 15th century, ownership changed from the local nobles of Linzenich to the von Merode family and from 1472 to 1642 to the von Colyn family, whose most famous representative was the Aachen mayor and pioneer of Protestantism, Bonifacius Colyn . In 1768 it came into private ownership. Today the two-part castle belongs to the Zerweck family and is operated as an agricultural estate .

On July 1, 1969, the community of Linzenich-Lövenich was incorporated into Zülpich .

church

The Marien and Brother Klaus Chapel was built and inaugurated in 1997. It belongs to the parish of St. Agnes in Lövenich.
