The castle Linzenich is a moated castle in Linzenich , a district of Zülpich in Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The castle was first mentioned in 1357 when a Teyle von Linzenich , a so-called local nobleman, was mentioned. At the beginning of the 15th century Werner von Merode became the owner. He sold the "vreyen hoff" in 1421 to Margaretha von Ellerborn, a née Merode. The property was then tenth - and tax-free, but had no castle rights . In 1472 those of Colyn were mentioned as lords, who died out in 1642 with the last owner Bonifacius Colyn the Younger, son of the mayor of the imperial city of Aachen , Bonifacius Colyn . In the same year the property was completely destroyed in the Thirty Years War . By inheritance, the castle came to the von Keverberg family. After a reconstruction, the property was damaged by an earthquake in 1755 . In the 19th century the castle changed hands several times.

The castle appears today as a large estate . The trenches still lead to water on the street side.

The farm buildings of the former two-part moated castle are new buildings from the end of the 19th century. Half of the barn is built into the original ditch zone. Today's two-storey building on a high basement still looks representative for a castle. The stately portal with stairs and bridge, the clear axis division and the high hipped roof are clearly a reminder of the noble past.
