Weiler Castle in the Plain (North Rhine-Westphalia)
Castle hamlet in the plain

The Weiler in der Ebene castle was a castle in Weiler in der Ebene , a district of Zülpich in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The castle was a noble knight's seat for centuries . Today the farm of the Böhling family stands at this point. Only parts of the horse stable from the 19th century remain from the castle. Remnants of masonry can still be found in the large barn. Moats can only be seen in small traces.

Already in the 12th century there was a local noble family in Weiler. Alexander von Wilre and Ritter Wicker von Wilre were mentioned in 1220 and 1253, respectively. 1,347 seals a certificate of the pen of St. Mary in the Capitol at Cologne a rust Gerhard de Wylre. The rusts of Wylre are mentioned in 1418 and 1422. In 1418, however, the property was probably already partially transferred to the von Berg family. In the middle of the 15th century, the Beissel von Gymnich were also represented in Weiler . Karl von Metternich sold the farm to Egmont von Palandt zu Maubach in 1486. After further changes of ownership, the property came to the heirs of Cologne mayor Franz von Brassart. Later Franz Georg Freiherr von Leykam was the owner. In the original cadastre from 1829, moats with a two-part courtyard with a double moat ring and garden island are indicated.
