Werner Siedhoff
Werner Siedhoff (born May 3, 1899 in Duisburg , † November 28, 1976 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German actor .
Life
Born in Duisburg, he began his artistic career in the 1920s as an actor, dancer and pantomime at the Bauhaus in Dessau . Siedhoff was already around 30 years old when he received his first permanent engagement in the field of classical drama. From then on he played on stages in the German provinces, starting with Osnabrück . Commitments to Gera , Plauen and Frankfurt am Main followed , where he arrived in the middle of the war (1942). Siedhoff was to remain loyal to the theaters there until his death.
His first wife, the Bauhaus designer Alma Siedhoff-Buscher , was killed in an air raid in 1944.
Siedhoff's best-known theater roles (all at the Städtische Bühnen in Frankfurt) include Savary in Victorien Sardou's Madame Sans-Gêne , the General in Der Hauptmann und seine Held , Sumata in Das kleine Teehaus , Niko Makezda in Bert Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle and the jailer in William Shakespeare's Two Kinds of Measure .
Since the early 1960s, the artist with the distinctive white whiskers and goatee was seen in a number of television games, including literary adaptations such as Schinderhannes and Trauer muss Elektra . As a rule, Siedhoff embodied gnarled and weird old types of all kinds in front of the camera.
Siedhoff had three children; his son Joost Siedhoff also works as an actor.
