House Bush

Haus Busch is on the eastern edge of Niederelvenich in the direction of Wichterich , both districts of Zülpich in the Euskirchen district of North Rhine-Westphalia on today's state road 162 in the Rotbachaue .

Haus Busch is a one-piece moated castle that lies on a regular island and is used as an agricultural farm.

It is certain that the Busch House was a former Prümer feudal farm . When the castle was built cannot be determined with certainty. In the 15th century the castle went from the Beissel von Gymnich to Michael von Bongart. His sister Katharina inherited the property in 1545. She called herself Hall zum Busch , which gave the castle its name. 1692 the widowed Maria bought the diet capable of Groote Electoral Cologne knight's seat . In 1700, her son Ferdinand began the ambitious expansion of the medieval castle into a baroque country palace. He died in Turin in 1742 ; the building project remained unfinished. The unfinished house was inherited by his niece Maria Jakobe, from whom it passed to the von Geyr zu Müddersheim family, who were related by marriage to the Grootes . In 1815 the barons of Mylius and the barons of Pranghe were joint owners. The later sole owner of Mylius sold the property to the middle-class Radmacher family in the middle of the 20th century. Today the property belongs to the Cologne art auctioneer Professor Hendrik Hanstein. He made Haus Busch a socially acceptable country residence again.

Through the gate, which was previously accessible via a drawbridge , you can see a modern barn under which the cellar vaults of the medieval castle house are located. A small corner tower and the remains of the walls of the castle and the Zwinger can be seen in the southeast corner. The bailey was completed by Ferdinand from Groote shortly before his death.

Haus Busch was entered on April 13, 1983 under number 26 in the list of monuments of the city of Zülpich .
