Mülheim Castle

The castle Mülheim is a moated castle in Mülheim , a district of Zülpich in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The castle is located on the north-western outskirts of the village on Rotbach . Today the former castle is a large four-sided courtyard . The courtyard buildings were completely renovated after a fire in 1863 and later rebuilt several times.

In the original cadastre from 1829 only one court festival surrounded by moats was given. A mansion may once have stood there.

Mülheim was originally owned by Prüm and later became part of Kurköln . The castle must have been built in the 13th century. In the 16th century a line of Schall is named by Bell as the owner. In 1770, Otto Degenhard Schall von Bell and Philipp Wilhelm von Boulich are listed as owners on the Electoral Cologne knight's slip. At the end of the 18th century, the property belonged to the Counts von der Leyen until they were expropriated by the French government. In 1863, after a few private owners, the Duke of Arenberg acquired the farm. Later the castle and approximately 600 acres of land were split between two owners.

Today the farm is run as an agricultural property with a farm shop .
