Juniperus przewalskii is a plant from the family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). It is native to China.

description

Juniperus przewalskii grows as an evergreen tree , rarely also as a shrub that can reach heights of up to 20 meters. All branches are about the same length, so the crown does not taper upwards. The loosely standing twigs go straight or slightly curved from the branches. With a diameter of 1.2 to 1.5 millimeters, they have a pencil-shaped or square cross-section.

Young trees only have needle-like leaves, while older trees also have scale-like leaves. The protruding, needle-like leaves are in three whorls on the branches and are 4 to 8 millimeters long. The cross-opposed, blue-green scale sheets are 1.2 to 3 millimeters in length, diamond-shaped and egg-shaped and are usually covered by a layer of wax. A gland is found at the base of the underside of the leaf . The tips of the leaves are pointed.

Juniperus przewalskii is single sexed ( monoecious ). The male cones are spherical in shape with a length of about 2.5 millimeters. They contain six to ten microsporophylls which carry two to three pollen sacs . The female cones are approximately spherical to spherical in shape with a diameter of 0.8 to 1.3 centimeters. At maturity they are colored blue-black to black. Each cone carries a slightly compressed seed. The conspicuously furrowed seeds are 7 to 12 millimeters long and 6 to 10 millimeters wide and are roughly spherical to spherical in shape and have resin pits.

Occurrence

The natural range of Juniperus przewalskii is in the Chinese provinces of Gansu , eastern Qinghai and northern Sichuan .

Juniperus przewalskii thrives at altitudes of 2600 to 4300 meters, especially in forests on mountain slopes.

Danger

Juniperus przewalskii is classified as "low endangered" in the IUCN Red List . It is pointed out, however, that a new review of the hazard is necessary.
