history

Numerous finds from Roman times suggest an early settlement. The church and castle in Lövenich used to form an enclosed whole. Today there is only the church. In 1124 the property of the noblemen of Hengebach in Lövenich was mentioned for the first time. In 1872 the last remains of the former moated castle were demolished.

In and around Lövenich there was a flour mill, which was named after its previous owners Ludersdorfer, later Aachener or Colyns-Mühle after its owner Bonifacius Colyn , the Aachen mayor and champion of Protestantism, as well as the Stein-Mühle, which no longer exists today. the Propst-Mühle and the Pfeiffer- or Nonnen-Mühle.

On July 1, 1969, the community of Linzenich-Lövenich was incorporated into Zülpich .

church

The church is under the patronage of St. Agnes . There must have been a chapel as early as Roman times , as relics of it are built into the church walls. 1210-1240 Joseph von Lövenich built the old church on the side aisle of the chapel. It had a tower, choir and aisle . In 1922 the new church was built perpendicular to the old building.
