Strempt is a place in the Eifel that belongs to the city of Mechernich in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Strempt is a former mining village west of Mechernich. The Rath house was between Strempt and Roggendorf . Strempt formed a community in the Vussem mayor of Schleiden district since the 19th century . The municipality of Strempt was incorporated into the municipality of Mechernich in 1914 . The Catholic Church of St. Rochus is in Strempt and has a wooden pieta from the 15th century. This makes this one of the oldest figures in the Mechernich urban area.

Actions

Strempt attracted nationwide attention with the “Gallisches Dorf” campaign, a symbolic referendum on the planned EU constitution on June 13, 2004, the day of the election to the European Parliament.
