history
The village name Voißel has had many different spellings over the years:
- 1493, Foissel
- 1546, Fosselen
- 1646, Vossel
- 1791, Voihsel
- and since about 1955 the name “Voißel” has been written.
The origin of the name has not yet been clearly established and there are currently two vague assumptions:
- Fossa = ditch (based on the ditch in which the village is located)
- Vos = fox (fox enclosure, "the foxes literally said good night here")
