The Stiftsmühle run-of-river power plant is a run-of-river power plant in Herdecke at the confluence of the Ruhr and Volme rivers . The power plant with the corresponding almost 200 meter long weir Stiftsmühle was built in 1930 by the Ruhrverband , who is still the owner today, but leased the power plant to RWE Power AG .
In the complex produce three Kaplan turbines with a maximum of 630 per kW power electricity. However, the weir, which has been in the Hagen city area since the land was redesignated in 1964 , and the power station are primarily used to manage the Hengstey and Harkort lakes , and through the water level control, the Koepchenwerk , located around two and a half kilometers up the Ruhr on the Hengstey lake , as a pumped storage power station for strongly fluctuating water levels in this section of the Ruhr.
There is a small artificial island next to the power plant.
The Stiftsmühle power station is location no. 5 on the Herdecke energy industry hiking trail . The Herdeck outdoor swimming pool "Freizeitbad Bleichstein" is located in the immediate vicinity of the power plant .
