The geological outcrop Im Schiffswinkel is a 200 m long outcrop in the Ardey Mountains in Herdecke on the Ruhr , on the west bank of the Hengsteysee . It is a show point of the Herdecke energy industry hiking trail . It is not far from the former Gotthilf colliery . The (seam-bearing) Sprockhövel layers and (seam-empty) Vorhaller layers, which formed in the Carboniferous about 300 million years ago, are open . The border is about 50 m to the left of the information board. The carbonaceous layers embedded in the Ruhr sandstone were created by driftwood.
