The bill Egbert was a coal - mine at Herbede . It was the last small mine in the Ruhr area .

From 1962 to 1976, about six miners mined coal at a depth of 135 meters . Up to two tons of coal were extracted and transported away for every man and working day . This is an amount per miner that is not significantly exceeded even in modern mines. The pit water flowed through an hereditary tunnel into the nearby Ruhr , so there was no need for complex dewatering in the tonnage shaft .

When the mine stopped mining on June 22, 1976 after 14 years of operation, coal production in the Ennepe-Ruhr district ended.

Small mines were in the room Herbede since the 18th century, they had great economic importance to the immediate area. As an example of this tradition, the Egbert small mine, which has been completely preserved in the daytime facilities, has been extensively restored and integrated into the historic Muttental mining trail . It is also part of the Route of Industrial Culture .
