Lothar Woelk (born August 3, 1954 in Recklinghausen ) is a former German professional football player .

Life

Woelk initially worked as a toolmaker at Blaupunkt, later in a shift system at Opel in Bochum. After moving to VfL Bochum, he became a professional footballer.

Career

Growing up in Recklinghausen- Süd, Lothar Woelk began playing football for the local clubs FC Leusberg and Eintracht Recklinghausen , to which he moved in the A-youth. After Woelk's military service, Eintracht coach "Fips" Schulte finally recommended the young player to the then VfL coach Heinz Höher .

Together with Michael Lameck , Walter Oswald and Franz-Josef Tenhagen , Woelk was one of the top performers at VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga for many years . For many years, however, his team was regarded as the gray mouse of the Bundesliga and so he only achieved his greatest success at the end of his career. In the final of the DFB-Pokal 1987/88 he led VfL Bochum against Eintracht Frankfurt as captain on the field.

He played from 1977 to 1989 for VfL Bochum and then for MSV Duisburg . After the 1991/92 season and the relegation of Duisburg, he ended his career. The defender played a total of 420 Bundesliga games and scored 30 goals.

After the career

In 1994 Woelk completed the course to become a football teacher.

Lothar Woelk works today a. a. as a guest coach in Charly Körbel's soccer school and as a customer advisor for a pipeline company.
