Ferenc Schmidt (born July 28, 1963 in Heilbronn-Sontheim ), best known under the name "Ferry" Schmidt, is a former German football player . He played a total of 54 games (four goals) in the Bundesliga and 144 second division games (25 goals).

career

The midfielder and striker at 1. FC Cologne made the leap into professional football via the stations Sportfreunde Neckarsulm and Union Böckingen . At the beginning of the 1980s he was part of the professional squad of Cologne for three years, but only made three Bundesliga appearances there. During the winter break of the 1983/84 season, Schmidt made a short detour to BV 08 Lüttringhausen (now FC Remscheid ), which was playing in the 2nd Bundesliga at the time. Then he came to the North Rhine upper division club 1. FC Bocholt , from which he moved in 1985 for a year to the then second division club MSV Duisburg. Before the 1986/87 season he joined the Wuppertaler SV . There he became a crowd favorite over the next three years and formed a dangerous storm duo with Carsten Pröpper . After two third places with the WSV in the Oberliga Nordrhein in 1988 and 1989 , he returned to MSV Duisburg . He was also a crowd favorite for many years at MSV Duisburg, where he played until 1996. In the 1989/90 season he was voted Player of the Season by the MSV fans. He was promoted to the Bundesliga three times with MSV , in 1990/91 he was the second best MSV player behind top scorer Michael Tönnies with eight goals this season . In 1996 Ferenc Schmidt ended his active career. After acquiring the DFB-Trainer A license, he coached the former league club SuS 09 Dinslaken in 1998/99 for a total of seven months . In the 2000/01 season he was a trainer at the DFB Talent Support Center in Hilden, responsible for the talents of the U-15 and U-16 juniors as part of the DFB's special funding . From the 2002/03 season he was responsible for the juniors (U-12 to U-15) of the Wuppertal / Niederberg football district as a DFB base trainer for another five years until September 2008. In 2003 he founded the football school in Wülfrath with his partner Jürgen Jankowski. After Jürgen Jankowski left on April 1, 2015, Alexander Nuss is the new managing director of the football school in addition to Ferry Schmidt.

In August 2010, the fans of Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg voted Ferry Schmidt as one of the most popular 24 players in the 108-year history of the zebras as part of a legendary election. In the north curve of the 'Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena' in Duisburg there is now a life-size poster with photos of all 24 chosen legends. Ferry Schmidt has been playing for the traditional FC Schalke 04 team since 2002 .
