Stefan Brasas (born August 31, 1967 in Münster ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper and current goalkeeping coach .
Career as a player
Brasas began his career at Preußen Münster and VfL Bochum. In 1987 he switched to the Werder Bremen amateur team . After moving to FC Mahndorf the following year , he played for the Stuttgarter Kickers in 1989 , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga at the end of the 1990/1991 season. Here Brasas was replaced by Claus Reitmaier after eight matchdays due to an injury .
For the 1992/93 season he moved to the first division promoted Saarbrücken . After a season he went back to Stuttgart. Finally he moved to SV Meppen in 1995 in the 2nd division. In his first season he saw four yellow cards and one red card. He scored his only field goal in the 1995/96 season in the game at FC Carl Zeiss Jena shortly before the end of the game to equalize 2-2. In the 2000/01 season he was voted the best goalkeeper in the DFB Indoor Cup, where he had reached the final with Werder Bremen.
He won his only title in Germany in 1999 as a substitute goalkeeper with Werder Bremen , when he won the DFB Cup and had previously prevailed in the semifinals against his former club Stuttgarter Kickers after extra time. In 2002 he moved to Cyprus and became master there with Omonia Nicosia . He spent the last two years of his career at SpVgg Unterhaching . In 2005 he ended his active career after 211 second division and 41 Bundesliga games.
With a height of 2.02 m, Brasas was one of the tallest goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.
Career as a coach
After a long commitment to the Nigerian Football Association , Brasas worked from February 15, 2008 to July 9, 2008 as a goalkeeping coach at Wuppertaler SV Borussia . From July 2008 to December 2009 he worked as a goalkeeping coach under head coach Winfried Schäfer for Al Ain Club from the United Arab Emirates . From August 1, 2011 he is the goalkeeping coach of the national team of Thailand .
