Claus Reitmaier (born March 17, 1964 in Würzburg ) is a former German football goalkeeper . In the 2013/14 season Reitmaier worked as a goalkeeping coach at the second division club SC Paderborn 07 , and since the 2016/17 season he has been working in the same position at Fortuna Düsseldorf .

Career

Reitmaier, who attended the Friedrich-Koenig-Gymnasium in Würzburg from 1975 , started playing football with the Würzburger Kickers , but switched to the Würzburger FV as a teenager . As an active player, he then went back to the Würzburger Kickers (Bayernliga). He began his professional career with Viktoria Aschaffenburg (2nd Bundesliga, 1986-89). He then played for two years for the Wiener Sport-Club (1st Bundesliga, 1989-91) before moving to the Stuttgarter Kickers , for which he made his Bundesliga debut in Germany in 1991. At his next club, 1. FC Kaiserslautern , Reitmaier was reserve goalkeeper behind Gerry Ehrmann and only made eight appearances. For this reason, he moved to Karlsruher SC in 1994 as the successor to Oliver Kahn . With the KSC he reached the final of the DFB Cup 1995/96 , which he lost against his former club from Kaiserslautern with 0: 1. In addition, he took to the KSC 1996/97 and 1997/98 at the UEFA Cup and 1995 and 1996 on the UI cup.

After Baden's relegation from the Bundesliga , Reitmaier moved to VfL Wolfsburg for the 1998/99 season , with whom he qualified for the UEFA Cup in the first year and in which he played 163 of his 335 Bundesliga games in the following five years. He was the record player in Lower Saxony until Miroslav Karhan replaced him with 173 appearances. After Jürgen Röber had sorted out Reitmaier at VfL, the goalkeeper went to Borussia Mönchengladbach , but was only used there sporadically, but on his 40th birthday he played the cup semi-final at Alemannia Aachen , which was lost 1-0. In 2004 he moved to FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the 2nd Bundesliga , the contract was terminated the following March.

From May 2005 Reitmaier played for the Norwegian first division club Lillestrøm SK , who was coached by Uwe Rösler . With this club he reached the cup final, at the age of 41½ he was voted the best goalkeeper in the league. Then he ended his career as a professional footballer. In June 2006 he was at Lillestrøm SK again, at the age of 42, for a game as a substitute goalkeeper, making him the oldest goalkeeper to have played in the first division in Norway.

After the end of his career, Reitmaier trained the German goalkeepers of the U21 national team . He then worked as a coach at Borussia Mönchengladbach's goalkeeping school, before moving to Hamburger SV on February 16, 2007 as goalkeeping coach . In the summer of 2010 his contract with HSV expired and he was replaced by Ronny Teuber .

In the 2011/12 season came riding Maier as the second goalkeeper in Oberliga side SV Halstenbek-Rellingen to the football field back, by the way he was goalkeeping coach at the club. But he came immediately to use because of an injury to the goalkeeper and played the rest of the preliminary round. In the 2012/13 season Reitmaier came back into goal after an injury to the regular keeper and played almost the entire series. In total, Reitmaier played 23 games, with the first 21 games undefeated. When he was last deployed on May 24, 2013, he was 49 years old.

For the 2013/14 season Reitmaier switched to the second division SC Paderborn 07 for one season as a goalkeeper coach and was thus involved in promotion to the Bundesliga.

Since the beginning of the 2016/17 season he has been the goalkeeping coach at Fortuna Düsseldorf and at the beginning of January 2020 he took on a position at the Fortuna junior performance center, where he is responsible for the further development of goalkeeping training.

Trivia

Reitmaier was 40 years and 10 days old when he last played in the Bundesliga on March 27, 2004 in the game between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern Munich. This makes him one of the ten oldest players who have played in the Bundesliga so far.

Reitmaier was the goalkeeper with the most saved penalties in the 1st Bundesliga in the 1990s.

Claus Reitmaier's brother is the magician and honorary captain of the Würzburger Kickers, Gerd Reitmaier (born September 19, 1960), whose son Marc Reitmaier is the trainer of the Würzburger FV .
