Matthias Imhof (born May 25, 1968 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Imhof came to Viktoria Aschaffenburg through the youth stations Elsava Elsenfeld and Kickers Offenbach . At Aschaffenburg he made the leap into the professional team of the 2nd Bundesliga . Under coach Lothar Buchmann , Imhof made his debut on matchday 33, the 1986/87 season when he was substituted on against 1. FC Saarbrücken . In all other games of the season he was involved, but he could not prevent relegation. In the following season, the immediate resurgence succeeded. Imhof was now part of the permanent staff at Aschaffenburg. In the following season in the 2nd Bundesliga he made 29 games and was relegated for the second time with Aschaffenburg. Imhof stayed in the league and moved to the Stuttgarter Kickers . With the Kickers he and his teammates such as Stefan Brasas and Marcus Marin achieved promotion to the Bundesliga . After a third place in the league behind the Ruhr area clubs MSV Duisburg and FC Schalke 04 , relegation against FC St. Pauli was necessary for promotion. The first leg and the second leg ended 1: 1, so that a playoff on a neutral pitch in Gelsenkirchen's Park Stadium brought the decision. Imhof, who played 270 minutes in all three games, won 3-1 with his teammates. In Imhof's first Bundesliga season, he was immediately relegated. He stayed in Stuttgart for another year, then switched to league rivals TSV 1860 Munich , who had just been promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. With the Löwen, at the side of Armin Störzenhofecker and Bernhard Trares , he made the march through and thus his second promotion to the Bundesliga. Imhof was denied another Bundesliga game due to cartilage damage in his knee.
