Volker Ippig (born January 28, 1963 in Eutin ) is a former soccer goalkeeper and coach .

Player career

At the age of 16 he came from the Ostholstein TSV Lensahn at Millerntor to FC St. Pauli , for which he then - initially behind the No. 1, "Rille" Rietzke - guarded the goal, initially in the third-class Oberliga Nord . After graduating from high school in St. Pauli, Ippig took a break, during which he did voluntary development work in Nicaragua, among other things . In the second half of the 1980s he, who also lived temporarily in the Hafenstrasse houses , became the personified epitome of the new, left-wing image of the “Kiezkicker”, for which he was a regular goalkeeper from 1986 and from 1988 also in the Bundesliga . The fans thanked him with a T-shirt with his photo and the playful headline “Volker hears the signals”, which was then widely used in large numbers. After 65 first and 35 second division games, he had to end his playing career because of a back injury in the 1991/92 season.

Coaching

Ippig, who was already considered spontaneous and very stubborn in his active years, then worked as a physiotherapist and began his trainer training, which he completed in 2004 with the acquisition of the A license. In 2005 Ippig obtained his soccer teacher diploma at the Sport University Cologne. From 1999 he worked as a goalkeeping coach at St. Pauli, where he threw in the towel at the beginning of 2003 - after disputes not only with his former deputy on the lawn, Klaus Thomforde . Further engagements took him to VfR Neumünster , the Schleswig-Holstein Football Association and the youth department of Holstein Kiel . For the 2007/08 season , Felix Magath brought Ippig to VfL Wolfsburg as goalkeeping coach . Since Ippig did not want to extend his commitment to three days a week, he was replaced by Andreas Hilfiker in January 2008 . At the same time he was working again at his hometown club TSV Lensahn and led it as head coach in 2008 for promotion to the association league. Since he did not earn enough with his mobile goalkeeping school, he started as a so-called indecent ( i.e. as a day laborer on call) in the Port of Hamburg. He has been employed there since 2011.

Trivia

In the film FC Venus - Attack is the best defense , Ippig plays a supporting role.
