Dieter Klever (born June 19, 1940 - June 9, 2008 ) was a German soccer player . From 1963 to 1971 he played a total of 202 games in the second -rate regional football league West with the clubs SC Viktoria Köln , VfL Bochum and DJK Gütersloh , scoring 27 goals.

Career

The midfielder and striker played from 1960 for SC Viktoria Köln in what was then the first-class Oberliga West . Under coach Hennes Weisweiler he made his debut on January 15, 1961 in a 1-0 home win against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the Oberliga West. The Viktoria attack started with the line-up of Carl-Heinz Rühl , Horst Hülß , Klever, Bernhard Schwier and Willibert Kremer . In the 1962/63 season he took part with Viktoria in the Messestädte-Pokal , where the Cologne team failed in the first round at Ferencváros Budapest . At the end of the season - in his third league season he was part of the regular line-up for the first time with 22 league appearances and three goals - Viktoria missed qualifying for the newly created Bundesliga as eighth in the table and continued to play in the second-rate Regionalliga West from 1963/64 . For Viktoria, Klever scored four goals in 34 league games and twelve goals in 95 regional league games. In the debut year of Regionalliga West, 1963/64 , he finished fifth with Viktoria behind Alemannia Aachen, Wuppertaler SV, Fortuna Düsseldorf and TSV Marl-Hüls; he had scored two goals in 35 league appearances.

In 1966, Klever moved to VfL Bochum , where in the late 1960s the team from Castroper Strasse developed into a top team in the Regionalliga West. The first sporting highlight was the first round under coach Hermann Eppenhoff in 1967/68, when the former championship player from FC Schalke 04 led President Ottokar Wüst's team into the final of the DFB Cup . Due to an injury, Klever was only on the ball in the 3-2 home win in the first main round, on January 27, 1968, against Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC for VfL and scored a goal. The attack by the home eleven started with Karl-Heinz Böttcher , Klever, Gustav Eversberg , Hans-Jürgen Jansen and Werner Balte against the guests from Baden.

The coronation of his sporting career was the 1969/70 season , in which the Bochum regional league champions were won. In the following round of promotion to the Bundesliga, however, the Bochum team failed due to Kickers Offenbach . Klever scored 15 goals in 97 regional league games for Bochum. From 1970 he let his career end with the DJK Gütersloh and came to ten other regional league games, in which he remained without scoring.
