Matthias Brücken (born July 23, 1953 in Frechen ) is a former German football player and coach.

Career

Matthias Brücken was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 1975 and recommended himself to move to 1. FC Köln due to his strong performances. The transfer fee for the striker, who scored 24 goals in the promotion season under the Bavarian cross, was around 150,000 marks. The striker played for 1. FC Köln in the 1975/76 season . He was used in nine games and was able to score two goals. However, it was not possible for him to establish himself in the regular eleven. That's why he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for FV 04 Würzburg . With Bayer 04 Leverkusen he returned in 1979 back to the top flight of German football back. After he mostly only sat on the bench there, he went to the second division club SC Viktoria Köln in 1980 . With Viktoria he had to relegate to the Oberliga Nordrhein in 1980/81 .

In total, Matthias Brücken played 28 games in the first and 122 games in the 2nd Bundesliga.

He ended his career at SpVg Frechen 20 , where Brücken also became a coach at the end of the 1980s. From 1997 to 2010 he coached the lower class club VfR Bachem . From 2012 until the complete resignation of the youth board in January 2020 he was head of the youth department of the club.
