Volker Abramczik (born May 27, 1964 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a former German football player. The younger brother of the national team player Rüdiger Abramczik was a striker and spent his career exclusively with clubs in the Ruhr area .

Player career

Volker Abramczik played in Schalke 04 youth teams from the age of four . He scored 15 goals in 19 games for various German national youth teams.

For the 1981/82 season, Volker Abramczik, who was predicted to have a great career, moved up to the squad of the Schalke professional team, which at that time competed in the 2nd Bundesliga . In his first season, the only 17-year-old played 22 league games and, as a winger, played a major role in Schalke's promotion to the Bundesliga.

Barely of legal age, the “little Abi”, as he was called by the Schalke fans, had a serious accident with his first car on August 4, 1982, just a few weeks after passing his driving test. The medical findings: double fracture of the skull, torn lung, crushed kidney. The supposedly steep career was suddenly slowed down; At first it even seemed questionable whether Volker Abramczik would ever be able to play football again.

The 1982/83 season ended with the direct relegation of Schalke. Volker Abramczik only appeared three times after his comeback. Another year later Schalke had again achieved promotion, but the striker's contract was not extended by manager Rudi Assauer . Abramczik therefore left the club and moved to the second division MSV Duisburg for the 1984/85 season .

From 1985 to 1990 he played for Rot-Weiss Essen . In the 1985/86 season he played with Essen in the Oberliga Nordrhein , where he scored nine goals in 18 games and made it to the 2nd Bundesliga. From 1986 to 1990 he scored 20 goals in 98 league games for Rot-Weiss in the 2nd Bundesliga. In 1990 he ended his playing career because of constant knee problems and a lack of offers.

After the active time

As before as a player, Abramczik also worked as a football coach exclusively in the Ruhr area. Among other things, he worked in the association league area as a trainer at SC Hassel and STV Horst-Emscher . In the national league he trained the Erler SV 08 . His main job today is as a sports salesman. He was also successful as a coach of the U-17 at 1. FFC Recklinghausen .
