Manfred Werner (born February 22, 1951 ) is a former German soccer player .

Player career

Manfred Werner played for the in Berlin-Charlottenburg -based SC Westend 1901 before 1976 Bundesliga Hertha BSC moved.

There he had the goal but Norbert Nigbur and his representative Horst Wolter on. After Wolter initially left the club in 1977, Werner rose to number 2 in Hertha. 1979 Nigbur left the club, but was replaced by the former German goalkeeper Wolfgang Kleff . When he injured himself on the 22nd matchday of the 1979/80 season in the game at Borussia Mönchengladbach , Manfred Werner made his Bundesliga debut, but had to accept two goals. On the following day, Werner was in the starting line-up for the first time and helped his team to a 1-1 draw against FC Bayern Munich . At the end of the season Hertha rose due to the poor goal difference against Bayer Uerdingen in the 2nd division . There Gregor Quasten rose to the regular number 1 and Werner only played in the 2nd round of the DFB Cup in a 4-1 home win over Würzburg . In 1981/82 Werner only played the role as a supplementary player. When the promotion to the upper house was already certain, he was allowed to play the last game at Wormatia Worms (0: 1). However, Hertha missed relegation and had to relegate immediately. In the second division season 1983/84 Quasten retained the position as a regular goalkeeper and Werner was only used four times, including in the last three games, when the promotion had already been checked. He played his last game on the 38th matchday in a 2-0 draw against Karlsruher SC . Manfred Werner then ended his professional career.
