Horst Knauf (born August 16, 1960 in Cologne ) is a former German football player .

Career

Horst Knauf played in the youth team at PSV Köln before moving to the A-youth team at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . Through the amateur team, Knauf made the leap into the professional camp as a Bundesliga club . He played with Leverkusen for three years in the upper house of German football, he was used in 39 games and scored two goals. For the 1983/84 season he left Leverkusen and played for FC Beringen in the Belgian league. After a year he came back to Germany to the second division KSV Hessen Kassel . He played for the Kassler for four years. In his first year at KSV, the 1984/85 season , promotion to the Bundesliga was only missed due to the poor goal difference, 1. FC Saarbrücken had a ratio of 5 goals better. A fifth place followed. Before relegation could not be avoided in the 1986/87 season , it was only enough for 19th place and thus the penultimate place. Knauf played another year in the Oberliga Hessen before ending his career. He interrupted his retirement twice and played again for a year in the state league at SV Hermannia Kassel and a year in the district league at KSV Hessen Kassel.
