Bernd Thiele (born January 24, 1956 in Burg auf Fehmarn ; † March 26, 2017 ) was a German football player .

Career as a player

Thiele played his first Bundesliga game for FC Schalke 04 on August 11, 1973 at the age of 17 . Rüdiger Abramczik made his debut in the same game . The two - Abramczik was even younger than Thiele - were for some time the youngest players ever played in the Bundesliga. Manfred Dubski , a long-time teammate: “Bernd was already at the age of 18. Together with Rüdiger Abramczik, he was one of the greatest Schalke talents of that time. He caught his direct opponent on the escalator of the Park Stadium and verbally processed him. An intimidation tactic that often worked. "

His greatest success was the Schalke runner-up in the Bundesliga season 1976/77 . Bad luck with injuries prevented a career as a national team player for the 1.76 m tall "Schalker Terrier". After eleven years and 189 games for Schalke, he moved to Hannover 96 in 1983 and ended his professional career there, after he had once again been promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 1985 as captain of the "Reds". In the amateur area, Thiele was still active for Preußen Hameln , SV Arminia Hannover and TuS Wettbergen in the following years .

From 1997 Thiele lived on Gran Canaria and worked there as a restaurateur and ran a pub in Arguineguín called "Zum Schalker".
