Bernd Beck (born July 18, 1956 ) is a former German soccer player .
Player career
The Lambsborner Bernd Beck began his club career at the local SV Lambsborn. He later joined the SV Martinshöhe.
His professional career began in 1978 when he moved to the second division club FC 08 Homburg , where he immediately became a regular.
After three midfield positions in a row, Beck went to Hertha BSC in 1981 . The old lady had in the previous year behind Werder Bremen and Eintracht Braunschweig nearly promotion to the 1. Bundesliga missed.
In the 1981/82 season, which was held for the first time in a single season , Beck scored both goals on the 37th matchday against Hannover 96 for a 2-0 win at the home Olympic Stadium , making Hertha perfect one matchday before the end of the season.
Having arrived in the first class , the team supervised by promotion trainer Georg Gawliczek was overwhelmed and immediately fell back from the bottom.
Even if Beck had temporarily lost his regular place in the first division, he fought for it again under the new coach Martin Luppen and at the end of the 1983/84 season had the most of all Hertha players with 36 appearances. The season goal of direct promotion was clearly missed in eleventh place.
Beck then switched to Kickers Offenbach, who had just been relegated from the Bundesliga . The Hessen he played in the 1984/85 season , all 38 games, which his side only goalkeeper Oliver Reck succeeded. However, Beck could not prevent the red-whites from relegating to the third-class league .
After relegation, Bernd Beck signed a contract with FC Homburg for the second time. While the Saarlanders had just escaped relegation in the previous season as 16th, they surprisingly managed to secure promotion to the football club in the 85/86 season as champions. With his goal to equalize 1-1 on the 37th matchday against Wattenscheid , Beck became the man of the decisive goal, as in Berlin .
After relegation could be achieved in the following year , Bernd Beck ended his professional career in 1987. However, he still played football for a few years, including once again with his home club SV Lambsborn.
