Thomas Siewert (born November 4, 1961 in Castrop-Rauxel) is a former German soccer player who played for FC Schalke 04 and SG Wattenscheid 09 in the Bundesliga .

life and career

The defender had been with FC Schalke 04 since 1976, became German B youth champion together with Wolfram Wuttke and was a junior national player in the B and A youth. In 1980 the strong Vorstopper joined the professional squad of FC Schalke 04. He made his first appearance in the Bundesliga at the age of 18 on the fourth match day of the 1980/81 season . In the game at Bayern Munich he was substituted on for midfielder Dietmar Danner in the 60th minute after Bayern had made the 1-1 half-time score 4-1 within five minutes . However, this did not prevent Bayern from making the final score of 5: 1 just a minute later through Dieter Hoeneß .

Siewert came into the public eye in his eighth Bundesliga game. In the Revierderby in the Westfalenstadion , he scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute to make it 2-2. With an involuntary, curious " arc lamp " he overcame national goalkeeper Eike Immel after a slip . “I didn't really want to hold on to it. More embarrassed, I lifted the ball towards the goal. I only noticed that the ball was in when my team-mates pushed me to the ground, ”he said later about his goal. The goal was voted goal of the month - and should be the only Bundesliga goal in Siewert's career. With Schalke, he got down after 17 missions at the end of the season. In the following season he contributed in 13 games to the second division championship and the immediate resurgence.

Siewert, however, remained second class, as he followed his former coach Fahrudin Jusufi to SG Wattenscheid 09 for the 1982/83 season . Here he became a regular player; in eight second division years he came to the Steilmann club on 230 missions. After the promotion to the Bundesliga in  1990 , he was part of the Wattenscheid squad for two years, but was only used in the first season . His last appearance on the Bundesliga stage was a 1-1 draw at 1. FC Köln on March 23, 1991 . Until 1994 he was then still active for Preußen Münster in the Oberliga Westfalen .

Siewert lives in Bad Sassendorf , where he became a businessman and runs two boutiques with his wife. He is committed to the local regional division club BV Bad Sassendorf, which he also coached.
