Fahrudin Jusufi ( Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian Фахрудин Јусуфи ; born December 8, 1939 in Dragash , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † August 9, 2019 in Belgrade , Serbia ) was a Yugoslav football player and coach . He belonged to the minority of the Gorans and was a national of Serbia.
Career
Jusufi, who belonged to the Gorans , began his career as a defender in 1957 at Partizan Belgrade . There he was four times Yugoslav champion. In 1966 they also made it into the final of the European Cup , but Partizan just lost 2-1 to Real Madrid .
In 1966 he moved to the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt , where he stayed until 1970. At the Riederwald he made 111 first division appearances, in which he also scored two goals. Jusufi was one of the early offensive defenders who did not limit himself to the man-hit role, but also played an active role in building up the game. From 1970 to 1972 he played - alongside Zvezdan Čebinac - as a player-coach for the then third division Germania Wiesbaden , before ending his playing career in Austria at FC Dornbirn in the following years . FC Dornbirn was also his first coaching station.
Jusufi made his debut for the Yugoslav national team at the age of 20 , took part in the European Championship finals in 1960 and the World Cup finals in 1962 and wore the blue jersey 55 times from 1959 to 1963. He also won the gold medal at the soccer tournament of the Olympic Games in Rome .
After his active career he coached, among others, FC Schalke 04 (between April 1980 and May 1981) in the Bundesliga, then SG Wattenscheid 09 for three years and later u. a. the TSV 1860 Munich (1986/87). But he had his greatest success with FK Partizan , where he celebrated the championship title in 1987/88 in the coaching bench.
His son Sascha also had a football career in Germany.
