Passolig

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Passolig is the name of a credit card used to buy tickets for games in the Turkish Süper Lig and 1st Lig .

system

The Passolig card was introduced with reference to Paragraph 6222 of the Turkish Penal Code during the 2013/14 season to ensure the safety of sporting events. Since then, supporters of the clubs of the two highest Turkish leagues need the card issued personally to the cardholder, signed by the latter and provided with a photo of the owner, in order to be able to buy tickets for the league games. The Passolig card thus replaces the previous tickets printed on paper. Neutral visitors and foreign guests also need a specially issued Passolig card to visit the stadium. At the stadium entrance, the card is pushed into a reader by the security staff, on which the photo of the card owner is then displayed. This system does not apply to national cup matches and European cup matches.

criticism

The Passolig system is extremely unpopular among numerous Turkish fans because the issuing Aktif Bank is close to the ruling Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi and it enables the state to control the fans. Since the Passolig card can be used not only to buy football tickets, but also as a credit card in general, further commercialization of football is feared. Various fan groups are therefore boycotting their club's games in order to evade the Passolig system. In German stadiums, especially at FC St. Pauli , banners have already been used to protest against the card system.
