Raşit Karasu (born October 31, 1950 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. When he was a player he was known by the nickname Usta Raşit (German Master Raşit or Raşit, the master ) because of his playmaking activities. As a home grown man, his name is associated with Fenerbahçe Istanbul . He was part of that Fenerbahçe-team in the 1967/68 season by winning the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Cup for the first time in club history the Turkish double could get. His most successful time as a player was with Adana Demirspor . His time at Demirspor was crowned with the final entry in the Turkish Cup of the 1977/78 season , the greatest success in the club's history.
Player career
society
Karasu played for the junior division of Fenerbahçe Istanbul until 1967 . For the 1967/68 season, when he was seventeen, he was accepted into the professional squad by the then head coach of the professional team, the Hungarian Ignác Molnár . This put him on August 30, 1967 in the pre-season TSYD Istanbul Cup in the encounter against arch-rivals Beşiktaş Istanbul . In this game Karasu came on in the 17th minute for Abdullah Çevrim and played until the final whistle. About four weeks after this game, he made his debut in the 1st Lig , the highest Turkish division, in the away encounter against Eskişehirspor . In the further course of the season he was used in four other league and three cup matches. In this first season with the professionals, the 1967/68 season , he and his team won the Turkish championship and the Turkish Cup . As a result, Karasu was part of the Fenerbahçes squad that won the first double in club history. In his second season, Molnár used him significantly more. As an eighteen-year-old Karasu played 14 league games, ten of which he was allowed to play over the full length of the game. His club fell short of expectations this season and fell short of expectations in both the league and the cup.
After the disappointing 1968/69 season , which the club ended without a title, the management of Fenerbahçe tried to increase the squad. The club was interested in striker Zeki Temizer from city and league rivals Vefa Istanbul and made an initial request to him. Those in charge of Vefa agreed to the change in principle and demanded in return Karasu's teammates Yaşar Mumcuoğlu , Salim Görür and Karasu himself. After the first transfer negotiations, Görür agreed to the change, while Mumcuoğlu and Karasu initially kept a low profile . Fenerbahçe later also gave goalkeeper Ali Filibeli to Vefa for the move and also held out the prospect of losing Erdinç Sandalcı . After Karasu initially refused to move to Vefa, he was persuaded by Fenerbahçe and Vefa to play for one season on loan at Vefa. Vefa paid Fenerbahçe a loan of 30,000 Turkish Lira for Karasu and also secured a purchase option with a transfer fee of 100,000 Lira. After switching to Vefa, Karasu and his club fought relegation towards the end of the season. The club officials Vefas declared before the end of the season that in the event of relegation Karasu and Sandalcı, including their transfer, should be committed. After achieving relegation, Vefa withdrew the put option and kept both players in his squad. Fenerbahçe refused the levy and then sued Vefa, demanding a higher transfer fee. Karasu started the new season regardless of this legal strike at Vefa. At Vefa, Karasu had immediately established himself as a regular player and top performer. In the next few seasons he consolidated his position within the team, became one of the most prominent playmakers in the league and in August 1972 he became the Turkish U-21 international. Before making his debut for the Turkish U-21 national team, Karasu hit the headlines off the field. He and a friend were arrested and held in custody on suspicion of rape of a 16-year-old girl. After prosecutors first asked for a 7.5-year prison sentence, the charges were later dropped.
Karasu played at Vefa until the summer of 1974. Since his club missed relegation in the first division at that time, Karasu moved to the southern Turkish first division club Adana Demirspor . At that time he moved for a transfer fee of one million lira and was therefore referred to by the Turkish sports press as the first millionaire in Turkish football. At this club, where he was to spend his most successful time, he rose immediately to the top performers and the Turkish national team player. During his second season with Demirspor, the major Istanbul clubs, including Karasu's former club Fenerbahçe, expressed interest in a commitment. Karasu then also stated that he would prefer an offer from his old club. At the end of the season, Karasu finally moved to Fenerbahçe. With his new club he won the pre-season TSYD Istanbul Cup. After the second match day, the Brazilian head coach Valdir Pereira was replaced by Abdulah Gegić . This put Karasu in the further course of the season rather used as a supplementary player. Since Karasu was not satisfied with his stakes, Gegić indicated to the club management that he could do without Karasu, Karasu's last club Demirspor used the moment and expressed interest in a return campaign. So Karasu returned to Demirspor after one season for a transfer fee of 450,000 lira. When he returned to Demirspor, he quickly regained his regular place and kept it almost continuously for the next three seasons. In the 1977/78 season he surprisingly reached the final of the cup with his club . Here he was defeated with his Trabzonspor after two finals, but reaching the finals was the greatest success in the club's history to date.
After Karasu had played for Demirspor until the summer of 1979, he was given to the then financially strong second division club Mersin İdman Yurdu . With this club Karasu ended the second division season 1979/80 as a champion and thus secured promotion to the 1st Lig . Promoted to the 1st Lig, Karasu was used by head coach İsmet Arıkan rather sporadically and ended the season with eight league appearances. After his club was relegated to the 2nd league after one season, Karasu stayed with Mersin İY for the next season. In the first season after relegation, the second division season 1981/82 , Karasus team managed to finish the league again as champions and thus achieve direct promotion back to the first league. After this success, Mersin Karasu put up for sale for a fee of 25,000 Lira. Thereupon his former club Vefa Istanbul announced that due to a name sponsorship now Vefa Simtel Istanbul called itself for a commitment.
At the end of June 1982 Vefa confirmed Karasu's commitment. At his previous club he played for the next two seasons and then ended his active career.
National team
Karasu's national team career began in March 1968 with a commitment for the Turkish U-18 national team.
From 1972 to 1973 he played four times for the Turkish U-21 national team as part of the Balkan Cup . In 1974 he was nominated for the first time as part of a Balkan Cup, in which the conditions of participation had changed, against the Bulgarian national team by national coach Coşkun Özarı and for the squad of the Turkish national team and completed his only A international match in this game.
In total, he completed three U-18, four U-21 and four A internationals.
Coaching career
In September 1994 Karasu worked for the first time as head coach when he began to coach the second division side Kütahyaspor . In the 1996/97 season he then worked at Düzcespor as an assistant coach. In the next season he began to work for the second division side Siirt Köy Hizmetleri YSE SK as head coach and held this position for about four months.
In January 1998 Karasu took over the position of head coach at third division Akçakocaspor . He then coached this club until the summer of 2000. After he had not worked as a coach for the next three years, he was hired in 2003 as a youth coach at Istanbul third division club Fatih Karagümrük SK .
From 2007 he was head coach one after the other in various Turkish amateur clubs. In 2014 he was hired as a junior coach at Adana Demirspor .
