Ali Filibeli (born January 1, 1942 in Plovdiv , Bulgaria , † July 18, 2011 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish football goalkeeper and official. He was associated with Fenerbahçe Istanbul and was also an official of this club.

Player career

Filibeli was born as the son of Rumelia Turks in Plovdiv, Bulgaria . As a child he moved with his parents to the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul . He started his club football career in the youth department of Karagümrük SK .

For the first division season 1961/62 he was included in the first team squad at Karagümrük SK and was supposed to replace the goalkeeper Tamer Kaptan , who had migrated at the end of the previous season , together with Sumer Yüzer . Filibeli made his professional debut on September 17, 1961 in the game against Beşiktaş Istanbul . In the further course of the season he quickly prevailed against the Yüzer and became a regular goalkeeper.

Several other clubs became aware of Filibeli through his achievements. So Fenerbahçe committed Istanbul Filibeli for the summer of 1962. At Fenerbahçe Filibeli did not succeed in asserting himself as a regular goalkeeper for a long time. In four years he remained second goalkeeper behind Hazım Cantez . In the seasons 1963/64 and 1964/65 Filibeli was with his team Turkish champions.

In November 1966/67 Filibeli was loaned to the promoted Eskişehirspor within the 1st Lig . At this club he competed with Hakkı Aygün and Yusuf Şimşek for the post of goalkeeper. While Filibeli was able to assert himself against Şimşek, he did not succeed against Aygün either.

At the end of the season he returned to Fenerbahçe and was behind Yavuz Şimşek and Hazım Cantez 3rd goalkeeper. From the summer of 1968, Fenerbahçe tried several times to get rid of Filibeli, but failed.

For the 1969/70 season he finally Fenerbahçe and hired at league and city rivals Vefa Istanbul . Filibeli only played one season for this club and negotiated for the next with Samsunspor , Trabzonspor , Boluspor , Beşiktaş Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul . For the upcoming season he finally came to an agreement with Galata SK . While working for this club, he was suspended from the Turkish Football Association in January 1971 for 105 days.

National team

Filibeli played a total of three times for the Turkish U-21 national team in 1964 .

Player career

After his playing career, Filibeli Fenerbahçe Istanbul became a club official and was a member of the board of the club until his death.

Ali Filibeli died on July 18, 2011 in Istanbul . He was buried in Istanbul's Karacaahmet Cemetery on July 19, 2011 after the midday prayer in the Karacaahmet Şakirin Mosque .

  • Filibeli's last name is derived from his origin. He was born in Plovdiv , Bulgaria , whose Turkish name is Filibe . Filibeli translates as meaning Der Filibeer or coming from Filibe .
