Yusuf Şimşek (born July 20, 1975 in Elmalı , Antalya Province ) is a former Turkish football player and current coach . Through his many years of work for Denizlispor , he is strongly associated with this association. With over 200 first and second division games for Denizlispor, he is one of the players with the most appearances in the club's history. On fan and club pages he is seen as one of the most important players in the club's history.
Player career
society
Şimşek started his professional career at Kemerspor . In the 1996/97 season he moved to Denizlispor . There he played four good years. In the summer of 2000 he switched to Fenerbahçe Istanbul as a great talent . He wore the blue-yellow jersey until the winter break of the 2003/04 season . However, Yusuf could not develop into a regular player there. During this winter break, Fenerbahçe loaned the midfielder to Gaziantepspor . After his return from Gaziantep, Şimşek left Fenerbahçe for good and went to Ankaraspor in the Turkish capital .
His stay at Ankaraspor was not long; after only six months, Yusuf Şimşek changed club again and was a new player at Akçaabat Sebatspor . For the 2005/06 season he left Sebatspor and went back to Denizlispor to hunt for goals. Şimşek was the team's captain and top scorer of the 2007/08 season .
Şimşek moved to Bursaspor at the beginning of the 2008/09 season . During the winter break he left Bursaspor again and joined Beşiktaş Istanbul .
After two years in Istanbul, Şimşek went to the second division side Kayseri Erciyesspor . He parted ways with this club at the end of the season and was hired in the dual role of player-coach at third division club Turgutluspor .
National team
In 2003 Şimşek ran once for the Turkish A2 national soccer team. At the Future Cup 2003 he was against the Scottish selection in the starting line-up, but was expelled prematurely with the red card of the field in the 39th minute of the game because of a gross foul.
Due to his constant performance at Denizlispor, the midfielder was appointed to the Turkish national football team in 2007 by the then national coach Fatih Terim for the international matches against Norway and Bosnia-Herzegovina . He was substituted on in the second half of the game against Norway and made his debut in the national shirt at the late age of 32.
He completed a total of six full international matches for Turkey.
Coaching career
His first experience as a coach was in the dual role of player- coach at third division club Turgutluspor . With this club he made it to the playoffs of the TFF 2nd Lig and was eliminated here. He then left Turgutluspor.
In the summer of 2012 he took over the post of head coach at his former club and current second division club Denizlispor . The attitude at Denizlispor was later revised by the club president Yurdal Duman and presented as a media duck .
For the second half of the 2012/13 season he was introduced to the second division club Çaykur Rizespor as an assistant coach and assisted his former head coach Mustafa Denizli . At the end of the season Rizespor was runner-up in the TFF 1. Lig and rose to the Süper Lig . After Denizli could not agree on a further cooperation with Rizespor, he and Şimşek left the club.
In early October 2013 he was introduced as head coach at the second division club Denizlispor . Since Şimşek does not have the necessary coaching license, the club also hired the coach Ümit Turmuş . He officially worked as head coach and unofficially acted as technical coordinator. After only 75 days in office, Şimşek left the club. The reason he cited disagreements with the board, and the players' salaries were not paid on time.
In January 2014, Şimşek took over the second division Karşıyaka SK . In February 2015 he resigned from his position. Immediately after his resignation in Izmir, Yusuf Şimşek became the head coach of Antalyaspor . Although his contract originally ran until the end of the season, he was fired from Antalyaspor in December 2015.
In the spring of 2016 he took over Karşıyaka SK for the second time as head coach. He left the club after about two months.
Şimşek took over the team from Mersin İdman Yurdu in October 2016 , who was penultimate in the TFF 1st Lig at that time . He left this club after about three months in office and took over the second division Bandırmaspor at the end of February 2017 . He also left this club prematurely after a three-month term.
In the summer break of 2017, Şimşek took over Denizlispor as head coach for the second time. After five defeats from six games, the contract was terminated by mutual agreement on September 26, 2017.
