Ozan Muhammed Kabak (born March 25, 2000 in Çankaya ) is a Turkish football player . He is under contract with the German Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 and is a national team player.

Career

Player profile

Kabak is a 1.86 m tall defender . His core task on the defensive is central defense with his primary headball game , tackling strengths and responsiveness, otherwise he is considered calm and good at handling the ball when building up the game. Furthermore, as a defender on the offensive, he is considered dangerous when the balls are inactive ( standard situations ).

The beginnings

Kabak went to school in Silivri in the west of the metropolis of Istanbul . There he played football regularly during school breaks and in physical education . The sports teacher recognized his footballing talent and recommended Kabak's father to enroll his son in a football club. This was supported by his father as a former amateur soccer player and so Kabak began club soccer in the youth of Silivrispor . He began his football career as an offensive player in the central attack . As a talented footballer, Kabak was allowed to train with the next higher football grades and was used in preparatory games. Due to his footballing achievements, the youth coach of Silivrispor recommended him to the youth department of Galatasaray Istanbul and thus he was invited to a trial training session , which Kabak successfully completed. In 2011, at the age of 11, he became a Galatasaray youth player. In the yellow-reds , Kabak was retrained as a defender because he was able to build up the game well from behind. After two years, the trained central defender received an amateur contract. In 2017, Kabak received a professional contract and rose to the reserve team ( Galatasaray Istanbul U21 ) of the professionals.

In the derby against city rivals Beşiktaş Istanbul , Kabak was appointed to the first team for the first time. Two weeks later, on May 12, 2018, he made his debut in the 2-0 home win of the eventual Turkish champions against Yeni Malatyaspor in the Süper Lig , when coach Fatih Terim replaced him in the final minutes for Ryan Donk . Later in October 2018, as a defender in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League , 2018/19 , Kabak made his club European cup debut and a 0-0 draw against FC Schalke 04 without a goal . He played a total of 18 competitive games for Galatasaray.

In early January 2019 the 18-year-old Kabak according to his footballing achievements of UEFA - reporters chosen among the 50 top talents of the future, which could cause a stir in 2019.

Change to Europe

On January 17, 2019, at the age of 18, the central defender moved to the German Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart , with whom he signed a contract that runs until 2024 , for the sum of around 11 million euros , replacing Pablo Maffeo as the previous club-internal record transfer. In the 1: 4 away defeat at Bayern Munich , Kabak made his Bundesliga debut while in the starting line-up and scored his first two goals as a professional on matchday 24 against Hannover 96 .

After VfB Stuttgart's relegation, Kabak moved to FC Schalke 04 for the 2019/20 season , with whom he received a contract that was valid until June 2024. At the beginning of 2020, Kabak became one of the top performers in the Royal Blues .

National team

Kabak was first used for Turkey in the U14. More games followed in the U15 and U16. With the U17 he took part in the U17 European Championship 2017 in Croatia , where he made five appearances and scored one goal. Kabak acted as a regular player and reached the semi-finals with the team, he was also one of the ten most noticeable footballing talents of the tournament. With the EM semi-finals, Kabak qualified with the team for the U17 World Cup , which followed five months later and he was part of the squad again.

In the last European Championship qualifier against Andorra , the defender made his debut for the Turkish A selection in November 2019 . With him in the starting eleven was his Schalke team-mate Ahmed Kutucu .

Life and miscellaneous

His parents migrated for work reasons from the Southeast Anatolian Derik of Mardin province to the capital Ankara in Turkey, so Kabak 2000 was the son of a Turkish Staatsbediensten in the village of Çankaya , a municipality and district of the central Anatolian city municipality Ankara , on the world. Furthermore, he grew up with an older sister and a younger brother in Silivri, around 80 km west of central Istanbul, and went to school there because his father was stationed there as the prison director . Kabak finished high school in Istanbul with a degree and his strongest subject was physics . In addition to the Turkish language , he can also converse in Kurdish and English .
