Pablo Carmine Maffeo Becerra (born July 12, 1997 in Sant Joan Despí ) is a Spanish football player . The defender moved to England as a teenager and made several appearances for various Spanish junior national teams. He will be under contract with FC Girona as a loan player from VfB Stuttgart from July 2019 .

Maffeo started playing football at FC Levante Las Planas in his hometown of Sant Joan Despí just outside Barcelona and moved to Espanyol Barcelona at the age of six , where he played once for the second team in the third-class Segunda Division B at the age of 15 . In the summer of 2013 he moved to Manchester City in England . There he first played in the second team and in the A-youth in the UEFA Youth League . With the first team, he sat in a few league games and in the UEFA Champions League on the bench, but without being substituted on.

On January 13, 2016, Maffeo moved to the Spanish second division FC Girona on loan until the end of the 2015/16 season . By the end of the season, he was used in ten league games.

For the season 2016/17 returned Maffeo to Manchester City back, and came under coach Pep Guardiola in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League , in the Champions League group stage and in the League Cup once each used.

On January 1, 2017, Maffeo returned to Girona on loan until the end of the season . By the end of the season, he contributed a hit in 14 league appearances for promotion to the Primera División . In July 2017, the loan was extended for the 2017/18 season. Maffeo played 33 times in the Primera División and scored one goal.

For the 2018/19 season Maffeo did not return to Manchester City, but moved to the Bundesliga for VfB Stuttgart , where he received a contract with a term until June 30, 2023. Maffeo was only used 8 times in the first half of the Bundesliga and was released from team training in April 2019 until further notice. Without Maffeo, VfB subsequently relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga after losing relegation to Union Berlin .

For the season 2019/20 Maffeo returns for one year on loan to FC Girona, who in the preseason was relegated to the Segunda División.
