Rabbi Matondo (born September 9, 2000 in Liverpool , England ) is a Welsh football player . The winger is under contract with FC Schalke 04 and is a Welsh national player .

Family and origin

Matondo was born in Liverpool and grew up in the Welsh capital, Cardiff . His father is from the Democratic Republic of the Congo .

Career

In the club

Matondo started playing football at Cardiff City and joined the Manchester City youth team in 2016 . There he first played in the U18 in the U18 Premier League. In the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, Matondo was part of the U23 squad and scored 8 goals in 25 league games. He also played with the U19s in the UEFA Youth League .

On January 30, 2019, Matondo moved to the Bundesliga for FC Schalke 04 , with whom he signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2023. The offensive player first played in the Bundesliga in the 2-0 home defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 20.

In the national team

Matondo played from 2015 to 2016 in the Welsh Under-17 national team , since October 2017 he is in the U21 active in the country. On November 20, 2018 Matondo debut under coach Ryan Giggs in the senior team when he at a 0: 1 friendly defeat against Albania came on.
