Münir Levent Mercan (born December 10, 2000 in Recklinghausen ) is a German football player . The midfielder is currently under contract with FC Schalke 04 and is a young German national player.

Career

Mercan played in the youth sector for several clubs in the Ruhr area before joining FC Schalke 04's U17 in 2016 . There he won the West German championship in 2017, which he also succeeded in the following year with the U19.

In preparation for the 2019/20 season, Mercan , who had been promoted to the U23 for this season, traveled to the professional team's summer training camp. Due to good training performances and various failures, Mercan stayed with the professionals after the preparation. In the first round of the DFB Cup against SV Drochtersen / Assel he made his professional debut and also scored a goal. A week later, at the Bundesliga match against Borussia Mönchengladbach , he was substituted on for Amine Harit in the 90th minute . On August 22, 2019, he signed his first professional contract, which is dated June 30, 2023.

National team

Mercan made his debut for the youth teams of the DFB when he played for the German U19 national team on April 16, 2019 in the 2-5 friendly defeat against Denmark. In October of the same year he was also used for the U20 for the first time .
