Markus Schubert (born June 12, 1998 in Freiberg ) is a German soccer goalkeeper . He is currently under contract with FC Schalke 04 and is a junior national player.

Career

Schubert started playing football at SV Lok Nossen at the age of six . He had played for SC Riesa from 2008 before moving to the youth department of Dynamo Dresden in 2011 .

Schubert has been part of the first team at Dynamo Dresden since the third division season 2015/16 . On November 28, 2015, he played his first competitive game in a 0-0 draw against Preußen Münster and at the end of the season rose to the second division with the team. For the 2018/19 season he became a regular goalkeeper for Dynamo. After the end of the season, however, he did not extend his expiring contract.

For the 2019/20 season , Schubert signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 . He made his competitive debut for the club on December 15, 2019 in a 1-0 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt , when he came on for Amine Harit after being sent off by Alexander Nübel . For the time of Nübel's suspension, which included four games, Schubert was still in goal, then missed the following five games due to injury and returned to the posts after his recovery.

National team

In 2015 Schubert was part of the U17 DFB squad. On February 15, 2015 he made his debut for the German U17 national team . He took part in the U17 European Championship in 2015 and in the 2015 World Cup, but he was never used.

On December 14, 2015, he made his debut for the U18 national team . There he played four games. On September 2, 2016 he played for the German U19 team for the first time , and in September 2017 for the U20 . On September 7, 2018, he played for the German U21s for the first time in the friendly against Mexico (3-0) .
