Nabil Bentaleb ( Arabic نبيل بن طالب, DMG Nabīl b. Ṭālib ; Born November 24, 1994 in Lille ) is an Algerian - French football player . He has been under contract with Newcastle United since January 2020 as a loaner to FC Schalke 04 and is active for the Algerian national team .

Career

societies

Bentaleb started playing football at AJS Wazemmes in his native Lille at the age of six and joined the Lille OSC youth academy in 2004 . After a brief engagement with the Belgian club Excelsior Mouscron in 2009 and then with USL Dunkerque , he went to the English first division club Tottenham Hotspur in January 2012 at the age of 17 . In the 2012/13 season, Bentaleb scored four goals in 14 games for their U21s, including the winning goal in the game against the U21s of city rivals Arsenal . From the 2013/14 season he played in the first team of Tottenham Hotspur. He played 46 league games in three seasons and played in the UEFA Europa League every season .

In August 2016, Bentaleb switched to Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 on loan . At the end of February 2017, Bentaleb was finally signed on permanently and given a contract that ran until June 30, 2021. After he had to pause for around two months from November 2017 due to a pubic bone inflammation and resumed training in the winter training camp in Benidorm , Bentaleb was not used in the first three games of 2018 (against RB Leipzig , VfB Stuttgart , and Hannover 96 ). In the game against Hannover 96 (January 21, 2018) he was not part of the FC Schalke 04 squad, although he was not injured. Already after the game at VfB Stuttgart, Bentaleb told the BILD newspaper that he was "in the form of a life" and said that the reporter should ask coach Domenico Tedesco why he wasn't playing. As a result, Bentaleb was not in the Schalke squad against FC Bayern (02/10/2018) and TSG Hoffenheim (02/17/2018). Bentaleb reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League 2016/17 with Schalke 04 and, after the runner-up in 2017/18, the second round of the Champions League 2018/19 . From mid-March to the beginning of April 2019, Bentaleb was transferred to the Schalke U23 by interim coach Huub Stevens , who had succeeded the released Domenico Tedesco, due to disciplinary measures . Another transfer to the second team followed at the end of April. In the first half of the 2019/20 season he made two appearances in the fourth-class Regionalliga West .

On January 21, 2020, Bentaleb moved to Newcastle United on loan in the Premier League until the end of the 2019/20 season .

National team

He played a game for the French U19 national team on November 14, 2012 in the 3-0 defeat against Germany .

Although he had played for the French youth team, he was courted by the Algerian Football Association. The English association was also interested in Bentaleb. On February 15, 2014, he announced that he would play for the Algerian national team in the future. He made his debut on March 5, 2014 in an international test match against Slovenia . At the World Cup in Brazil , he played all three group games over 90 minutes each; when eliminated in the round of 16 against Germany , he was not used.

Others

Bentaleb scored the first goal in Bundesliga history to be verified with the Hawk-Eye in the game between FC Augsburg and FC Schalke 04 on October 15, 2016 .

In 2019, Bentaleb's driving license was withdrawn after he had accumulated 14 points in the Flensburg register of fitness to drive within ten months due to numerous violations of the permitted maximum speed .
