Beginnings
Saint-Maximin grew up in the vicinity of the French capital Paris and started playing football at a club from Verrières-le-Buisson . He then played for a club from the nearby Ris-Orangis , where the striker was already eight years old as being extraordinarily technically talented and quickly noticed. He then wore the jersey of a club from Boulogne-Billancourt , which is also part of the capital region, for four years , before he was brought to AS Saint-Étienne a few hundred kilometers southeast in the summer of 2011, shortly before his 14th birthday , and strengthened the youth division of the first division club. The club tried to train the player at the national youth performance center Center technique national Fernand-Sastre , which he had to leave some time later due to poor performance. In the club, however, those responsible continued to rely on him, so that he was part of the B junior team, which won the French championship of the under-17s in the 2012/13 season. On July 3, 2013, the then 16-year-old signed his first professional contract with Saint-Étienne.
AS Saint-Etienne
A few weeks after signing the contract, Saint-Maximin made his professional debut at the age of 16 years, 5 months and 17 days when he lost 1-0 to Danish club Esbjerg fB in the Europa League qualification on August 29, 2013 ran up. This game, even though it resulted in the elimination of his team after a 3: 4 in the first leg, made him the youngest participant in the European competition in the club's history. Three days later he was substituted on in the 69th minute at a first division match against Girondins Bordeaux , which ended 2-1, and thus made his debut in the top French division. However, he could not break the club and league record of Laurent Paganelli, who was 15 years old when he made his debut, as the youngest player. In the following years, the youngster was still occasionally used as a substitute in the first team, while at the same time he received match practice in the fourth-class second selection. After the summer break in 2014, he was part of the top team for the first time and came back into focus more regularly.
Hannover 96
At the end of July 2015, Saint-Maximin was signed by AS Monaco and given a five-year contract until June 30, 2020. However, he was initially loaned to Bundesliga club Hannover 96 for the 2015/16 season, for whom he was on August 22, 2015 (2nd matchday) in the 0-1 defeat in the home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen with a substitute for Mevlüt Erdinç in the 60th minute debuted. He scored his first Bundesliga goal in his ninth league game on December 4, 2015 (15th matchday), in the 3-1 defeat in the away game against FC Schalke 04 , with the connection goal to make it 2-1 in the 81st minute.
SC Bastia
After relegation with Hannover 96, Saint-Maximin initially returned to Monaco for the 2016/17 season , but was not given a shirt number in coach Leonardo Jardim's squad and was not included on the eligibility list for qualifying for the UEFA Champions League . On July 28, he was loaned to SC Bastia until the end of the season.
National team
Saint-Maximin played the first game in the national jersey for the French U-16 team, which beat Belgium 3-2 on January 21, 2013. Ten more missions followed in this national team before he was promoted to the U-17 national team in the same year .
