Florian Grégoire Claude Lejeune (born May 20, 1991 in Paris ) is a French football player who plays for Newcastle United . He can be used as both a defender and a midfielder, but mainly plays as a center- back .

Club career

Lejeune was born in Paris and began his football career in July 1998 at the Center de Formation de Paris , a youth sports club. After playing for various amateur clubs as a teenager, he moved to FC Istres in Ligue 2 in summer 2009 . He first played for the club's second team and was later promoted to the professional squad, where he could draw attention to himself with good performances.

On July 7, 2011 Lejeune moved to FC Villareal for a transfer fee of one million euros . He played there first for the second team. After appearing in seven B-team games, Lejeune made his A-team debut on November 6, 2011 in a 0-0 draw against Espanyol Barcelona as a substitute. In January 2013 he was loaned to Ligue 1 at Stade Brest . In July 2013 it was announced that Lejeune would be loaned to the now relegated club for another year.

After his loan at Brest ended, Lejeune signed a two-year contract with FC Girona in the Spanish second division. At the Catalan club, he became an undisputed regular player and played all 38 league games in 2015/16.

On August 28, 2015, Lejeune surprisingly moved to Manchester City . However, he never played a competitive game for the club and was immediately loaned back to Girona.

After a season at SD Eibar , he finally moved to Newcastle United in the Premier League on July 4, 2017 . The transfer fee was estimated at 10 million euros.

National team

He made seven international matches for France's U-20 national team. He took part in the 2011 U-20 World Cup and reached the semi-finals.
