Dwight Devon Boyd Gayle (born October 17, 1990 in London ) is an English football player .

Early career

Dwight Gayle began his career in the youth division of Arsenal FC . In 2009 he joined FC Stansted , where he was the club's top scorer with 57 goals in the 2010/11 season.

Peterborough United

In the summer of 2011 he signed a contract with Dagenham & Redbridge in Football League Two . He was loaned to Bishop's Stortford FC shortly thereafter .

In November 2012, the loan to Peterborough United followed . He made his debut on November 24, 2012 against Ipswich Town . Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson said of Gayle at the time: "He listens. He takes things very quickly, it's always a sign of a good player. He's going to be a really good player."

On December 24, 2012, he agreed to play permanently for Peterborough. He signed a 4½ year contract on January 2, 2013. The move went for a transfer fee of £ 500,000. On March 2, 2013, he scored a hat trick in a 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers .

Crystal Palace

On July 3, 2013, Gayle signed a four-year contract with the Premier League promoted Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee . He made his debut on August 18, 2013 in the 0-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur . He scored his first goal on August 31 against Sunderland AFC . On October 5, 2013, he scored the only Palace goal on Anfield Road in a 3-1 defeat by Liverpool . On May 5, 2013 he scored again against Liverpool after a 3-0 deficit, two goals in the 81st and 88th minutes and helped Palace to draw a draw.

Newcastle United

On July 1, 2016, Gayle confirmed that he was joining Newcastle United after successfully passing a medical exam .
