DeAndre Roselle Yedlin (born July 9, 1993 in Seattle , Washington ) is an American football player . The defender plays for Newcastle United in the Premier League and is active for the US national team .
Player career
youth
Yedlin was part of Washington State's Youth Soccer's State Olympic Development Program from 2006 to 2009. He also played for the local soccer teams Emerald City FC, Northwest Nationals and Crossfire Premier. In 2010 he switched to the Seattle Sounders youth program.
In February 2011 he moved to the University of Akron and played there for the next two years for the Zips. In addition to college, he played for Seattle Sounders FC U-23 in the USL Premier Development League .
Seattle Sounders
On January 11, 2013, he moved to the Seattle Sounders, becoming the team's first homegrown player . He played his first game as a professional on March 2, 2013 against Montreal Impact . He was nominated for the best MLS selection of the week, something that no rookie has achieved before him. He scored his first goal in a game in the CONCACAF Champions League on March 12, 2013. On July 15, 2013, he was appointed to the MLS Allstar Team. He scored his first league goal on July 20, 2013.
Change to the Premier League
In August 2014, Yedlin was signed by Tottenham Hotspur . He signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2018 and should continue to play with the Seattle Sounders for the 2014-15 season. At the end of December 2014, the club announced that Yedlin would play for Tottenham from January 2015.
After Yedlin had only one appearance in his first six months at Spurs, he moved to Sunderland on September 1, 2015 until the end of the 2015/16 season on loan .
In August 2016, Yedlin moved to the Premier League relegated Newcastle United and signed a five-year contract there until 2021. Yedlin scored his first goal for his new employer in his second game to 2-0 against Derby County .
National team
On June 7, 2013, he was appointed to the squad of the US U-20 national team for the 2013 World Cup in Turkey. He made his debut in a game against Portugal three weeks later.
On February 1, 2014, he made his debut for the United States national soccer team in a friendly against South Korea. In May 2014, the US coach Jürgen Klinsmann nominated him for the 2014 World Cup .
