Yoshinori Mutō ( Japanese 武 藤 嘉 紀 Mutō Yoshinori ; born July 15, 1992 in Setagaya , Tokyo ) is a Japanese football player . The attacking midfielder is under contract with Newcastle United .

Career

Mutō played in his youth first for the Buddy Soccer Club and later in the youth academy of FC Tokyo . During his economics studies, he played for the team at Keiō University from 2010 to 2013 . In 2014 he received a professional contract from his youth club, FC Tokyo.

For the 2015/16 season Mutō was obliged by the German Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 , where he received a four-year contract. There he scored his first two Bundesliga goals on the third match day in a 3-0 win against Hannover 96 . In his first two years he was sidelined for some time due to injuries. In his three seasons at Mainz 05, he played 72 competitive games, in which he scored 23 goals and prepared 11 more.

For the 2018/19 season, Muto moved to Newcastle United in the English Premier League . His contract runs until 2022.

National team

2014 Mutō made his debut in the senior national team . With her he qualified for the 2015 for the Asia Cup and came off the bench in all four games to the resignation of his team in the quarterfinals. At the 2018 World Cup , he also played four games for the national team, which was eliminated in the round of 16.

He has made 25 international appearances and scored two goals.
