Geneviève Raugel ( May 27, 1951 - May 10, 2019 ) was a French mathematician .

Life

Raugel studied from 1972 at the École normal supérieure de Fontenay-aux-Roses . In 1978 she received her doctorate from the University of Rennes 2 under Michel Crouzeix ( Thèse de troisième cycle ) with a thesis on elliptical problems with corners ( Résolution numérique deproblemèmes elliptiques dans des domaines avec coins ). Afterwards she was a researcher at the CNRS (initially Chargé de Recherche , from 1996 research director). In 1984 he completed the second part of his doctorate in the French system, also with Crouzeix (Thèse d'Etat, Approximation numérique de Genealogie de Genealogie non-linéaires (Numerical Approximation of Nonlinear Problems)). She first worked in Rennes, later at the École polytechnique and finally at the University of Paris-South .

Raugel mainly dealt with partial differential equations, especially Navier-Stokes equations and with global attractors . With Christine Bernardi , she developed the Bernardi-Raugel element (for the finite element method ).

In recognition of her fundamental work with Jack Hale, she gave the JK Hale lecture at the 1st International Conference on Dynamics of Differential Equations (GA Tech 2013) in his memory. She was the main organizer of the 2nd International Conference on Dynamics of Differential Equations in this series ( CIRM Luminy, 2016). For many years she shaped the Journal of Dynamics and Differential Equations as a tireless co-editor.

She has published with Jack Hale , Klaus Kirchgässner , Jerrold Marsden , Tudor Ratiu , among others .
